From sunny Florida

Hello friends !

We made it to the Tampa area and stayed a week; and are now in Ocala, Florida ("the horse capital of the world" - so the brochures say). But really we took a tour of the beautiful rolling hill horse farm area around here ... said to be over 1,000 horse farms/training facilities here.  The limestone of the area (similar to some of the Texas hill country) is good for the young horses in developing strong bones .... through minerals in the grass, water, etc.... so they are sent here for the first year of their lives before they go on to train as race horses.

We laughed when we encountered white SAND drifts in the streets of downtown Clearwater...... after spending three weeks in the white SNOW drifts of New York.  I think we learned our lesson - been there, etc.

We have also been rather rudely introduced to the much higher camping fees of "seasonal snowbird land". Welcome to reality.... oh, well.  My wish to go to Key West has turned into a day trip ... but that's ok.   We had fresh strawberries from the field yesterday; and wild orange trees are everywhere along the roadsides.  We may decide to go "a little" farther north until we find more reasonable rates.

Heading South !

Hello friends,

This is a new start of the blog .... (since we somehow corrupted the first one).
To summarize our first month of full-time RV-ing:
     Left Houston Dec. 8th
Arrived in Owego, NY on Dec. 14th (in 8 degree weather) and promptly froze our fresh water tank.
(100 gallons of frozen water is a very LARGE ice cube)
Winterized the motorhome and stayed with Vera's sister for the holidays.
Left Owego Jan. 9th and are now heading as far south as we can get as quick as we can get there!

We are now near Richmond, VA.   So much history and things to see .... but it is toooooo cold.
Someone should have questioned our sanity when we came north in the winter;  there's no crowds but the reason is ... it is toooo cold !    It's a shame to just be passing through and not slow down to experience the area. Well, we'll know better from now on.

The snow has been beautiful; but the driving would be treacherous .... so we just lay-over somewhere when the road ahead is reported to be icy.  Our next stop for more than one night will be Charleston, SC; and by then we hope to be able to get unwinterized (so we can use the in-house facilities).
