good ole Cracker Barrell

We lo-o-o-ve Cracker Barrell restaurants ..... and today a C.B. in Jackson, Mississippi was the scene of a 2 hour plus visit with friends.  We stopped to see Charlie's friend Charlotte, who is the one who joined us for a week in Glacier National Park (in 2011).  She's the one who encouraged us in our hiking attempts .... and led us on some great adventures in Montana.  Anyway, it was a great visit.

Tonite we are in Meridian, MS. We pulled into the campground that Vera had found online, and instantly recognized that we have been here before ... in the dead of winter (that first trip we took into the north in 2010).
The world is much greener today as we pass thru. As a matter of fact, we have been marvelling how pretty it is here .... and quite cool.
Tomorrow nite will be in Atlanta ..... moving on.

North Carolina here we come

Great news !! We have a destination: Cascade Lake near Asheville, North Carolina.  We have decided to "Workamp" for two months to see how we like it.  Most campgrounds (all over the US) hire part time workers for short time periods, in exchange for your free campsite.  We have chosen one 30 miles south of Asheville, in the Pisgah National Forest, and are to report there by May 1st.
We will man the gatehouse or store for 16 hours a week, then do campsite cleanup for another 4 hours a week ..... then be off for 3 days.  The great thing is that Charlie and I can split up or switch out the 20 hours between ourselves (Vera is still teaching part time so won't be working with us).
We are excited about trying it ..... our big focus this summer is to try to save money for the BIG Alaska trip 2014.  That will be about a 12,000 mile round trip.... so we are saving our pennies.

We are still here in Pearland at our all time favorite campground ... and enjoying our friends here in Houston and Galveston.
Vera and Charlie both have been taking watercolor lessons with me for about 7 weeks now ... I now have someone to paint with!

Today, our church Bible Study class had a luncheon with another younger class.  It could be described as an "inter-generational" occasion. We have about 60 women from age 30 to 93; and the other class was probably about 40 men and women around age 25-30.   It was so much fun exchanging ideas and information with them.

We have a lot to do to get ready to travel again ..... I'll keep you posted.
